PICOVISION

Call it Picovision, call it "Mobile TV" or whatever (following on from one of my posts below):

It's got scope for all sorts of fun n creative mischief: back-alley gore-film festivals; light-shows; mobile art-installations; magic-shows; performances/lectures; moving grafitti; home-made puppet cinema, etc, etc.

(Tho having said that: you can't beat the wonderful visual vibe you get from an ol' fashioned 8mm projector (I must run some of my old animated films again this autumn/winter!) or a slide-projector...)

Picovision projectors: coming to a cell-phone near you very soon.

If they can crack Hi-Def with this on a reasonable consumer scale (the prices mentioned seem totally reasonable) this really will be sweet. Laser projection will never really replace optic lenses, like you said, but they get around a lot of the portability and upkeep issues. I need to keep an eye on this...

I like the fact that - being a laser - it's scalable; blow it up/shrink it down - it stays a coherent image. I like its portability.

Now suppose someone then starts developing phone apps to play with the visuals that are being projected - to mix/loop/overlay. Suppose someone develops AR apps as well...as you extrapolate outwards it gets even more interesting.

I'm not a gadget-freak, btw; just fascinated by the potential uses of things...this, I think, has got the potential to open up new art-forms maybe, as well as all the more 'obvious' mainstream uses that folks will put it to...

BTW: I was actually more jazzed by yr comments about microscopes and telescopes (finding new worlds in yr back garden); it got me googling about mini-cam adaptors that you can put onto microscope eyepieces, etc. They're not cheap, but they're not expensive either...making film-shows out of microscope-slides, etc has already been done by a handful of people, but it's an area that's still very ripe for exploration.

I think what I would like to see right now is the video-feed equivalent of a contact-mic - preferably something cheap or homemade that can optically sample your environment (and feed straight into a PC to be recorded as a common video standard/file type). It's an area I know nothing about - the only thing I can think of off-hand like that is maybe fibre-optics. As you know I'm pretty electronically challenged lol; can just about make a contact mic lol; tho thinking of trying out a bit of circuit-bending/mods...optical-feeds feel like they're a bridge too far at the moment; but I'm willing to learn...

How fucked up is that? It will greatly improve porn I think, much like the internet did. My question is this....What exactly were you looking for on YT when you found this?

And, yes, of course, porn...lol.

Well, I was actually Googling/searching for picovision-related stuff because, sad to say, I am actually interested in various emergent technologies and their applications, and I knew there was various demo videos out there.

Thought so.

You're allowed to say it out loud: "sad bastard".
