Interesting that Simon R should mention the 2562 single (which imho is fucking great) - I wrote a capsule review of it for the ish of FACT before last which got elbowed out of the ink edition by an extended album review section. It is a triffik single, and v. original sounding, so even tho it's been around for a while, it deserves a big-up and investigation by the more adventurous of y'all, so here a rewind:
2562 – “Channel Two”/“Circulate” (Tectonic)
On “Circulate,” the beats skip in double-time like Fred Astaire’s disembodied dancing-shoes or Dorothy off to see the Wizard. There are splashy claps, robotic dog yelps and a bass-line that rolls along like cast-iron tumbleweed. But “Channel Two” is seriously progressive shit: more futuristic Berlin-Detroit-Dubstep cross-talk with a staccato b-line and syncopated synthsquelch that sounds like Eddie “Flashin’” Fowlkes partying in St. Pauls.
2562 hangs over here - go check if you like beats with broken-legged syncopation. I knew bugger-all about the guy except he was Dutch...when I asked Pinch a few weeks back, he said:
"Well, I don't have a lot of info about him really...he used to produce dubbed-out Broken Beat as Dogdaze and has a more Techno alter ego too, I forget what it is tho, unfortunately...I will send u the beats to listen to in full..."
