QUIRK KIDS/SQUARE PEGS
From the uncanny notepad of Kid Shirt (15/09/07):
"Saw my first Quirk Kid today. Skinny, androgenous little thing on Platform 6, Salisbury station. Fluffed-up ginger Princess Di hair-do circa '82, cum pompadour. Enormous black Buggles glasses and make-up all wrong: too much rouge on cheeks wh/made her look like Una Stubbs style Aunt Sally.
Tight-fitting honey-coloured charity-shop jacket w/ large beige check-pattern. Under this, (also honey-colured but different shade) some sort of quasi-medieval blouse vs shirt thing (not sure which) w/ *eeek* oversized ruffles on collar (which flopped out waaaay over jacket collar) and puffed-up sleeve-cuffs.
Microskinny drain-pipe trousers (mushroom coloured) and skuffed up Old School trainers. Post-Cool.
Age uncertain; somewhere betwn 13 and 23. Wouldn't like to make a call on this.
Looked v. self-conscious, nerdy/nervous, like a Devo groupeee. She had an extremely perplexed expression on her face. As did I.
Some Nu Quirk groups might be, errrm: Arnold Bayonet, Meth Cat, The Luminous."
Sad to say, I remember seeing this when it was on originally on telly. Really dig Johnny Slash's ("I'm New Wave, not Punk!") band at the end, after Devo play:
