SO IT GOES

RIP Tony Wilson.

Well, he could be a bit of a twat, could Tony, but I always had a grudging soft-spot for him. Westward Television, bizarrely, was one of the few channels that used to run his Granada-made program, "So It Goes", which was one of the v. few visual outlets for Punk and pre-Punk music, slotted away in some 11:00 or later graveyard slot (incredible to remember but UK TV finished at around 12-ish back in the 70s...). Respect to him for putting his neck on the block with that show; it was a life-line to provincial kids like myself.

And Factory Records, well, 'nuff said.

Were you there when we went to see Buzzcocks/Joy Division in Bristol? He was handing out Unknown Pleasures posters at the door. Some cunt nicked mine.

Yeah, I went to that one with ya!

Also saw 'em at Trinity Hall.

My Wilson-delivered JD poster decorated the walls of a number of flats and houses I lived in - currently retired to my attic with a roll of other posters I can't bear to be parted from.
