HENRY KUTTNER/CATHERINE L MOORE

Kuttner was kool: he was one of the Lovecraft Group, and was married to the totally fantastic C. L. Moore, who wrote for Weird Tales back in the 30s (along w/ Robert E Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, etc) and is one of my all-time favourite writers of Fantasy and the Fantastic. Her best-known characters are Northwest Smith and Jirel of Joiry...she met Kuttner when he wrote her a fan-letter; they got married a few years later and collaborated to the degree where they would write alternate paragraphs in stories, finish each others sentences, etc, and were later unable to tell who wrote what.

When Kuttner died in 1958, she pretty much stopped writing fiction (awwww....); a terrible loss, I think...

This is a recent-ish collection of her stories...

...but if anyone spots reasonably-priced copies of any of her originals, then please let me know.

I like a lot of the writers of that group ... C. A. Smith and Kuttner ... don't know Moore's work though, have to check her out.

Lovecraft, what a nutcase.

Hope you won't be disappointed!

I loooove Smith's stuff; he's one of my faves too. Moore's not so overtly poetic as he was, but she's got a nice turn of phrase and she does really great atmospheric fantastical landscapes...I love all that US 1930s dark/weird fantasy stuff, and the English Edwardian stuff too...

Neo-Edwardianism ... it will be the wave of the future.

I was talking to my wife about this earlier this evening, about how social values are hurtling backwards towards an inverted 50s where people are born middle-class but will end up in poverty by the time they're 30. Won't be long before we hit Neo-Edwardiania, I reckon...unfortunately the literature won't be that good; fantasy novels'll still have arse photoshopped covers...
