THE CENTRE OF THE CYCLONE

I dunno why, but I bet Loki's got a copy of this:

On the shelf next to the Castaneda books.

This edition was published in (ta-da!) 1973. I used to love all those 70s Paladin books on Cosmology, Mysticism, Parapsychology, Druuuuuugs...

guilty as charged... i've got that and some of the others.. there's one with dyadic in the title.... just luuuve the covers... and i totally agree about the seductive powers of that Paladin series; it's more than just the odd topic headings and hippydippy subject matter, more even than the normally excellent covers from that 70s series...

it's the whole shape, of the book, a unique (i think) ratio of length to breadth, a platinum ratio which taps directly into some unconscious evolutionary (evo-stick) babyneed for grasping...

i've got books in that series that i've never read, never will read but just like picking up once in awhile....

"dyadic"....LOL...!

I think you've just put yr finger on the whole quasi-austistic "gotta-haveness" of those books! The slightly non-standard size; the design conceits, etc. I'm exactly the same about certain types of UFO/paranormal/crank-conspiracy culture books...

Just noticed my typo: "austistic".

Wonder what my sunconscious was trying to say?

Jeez: just did it again:

"Sunconscious."

'Sunconscious' - absolutely wonderful. I know what you mean about the tactile quality of those books. It's the smell of the pages as they get older as well. And the feel of the quality of the pages...like sugar paper. The slightly yellow tinge....ah, Proust where are you?
