SAD DAD DAY

Oh, and a happy Fathers Day to all you Sad Dads out there.

Yeah, I know, it's a corporate-sponsored reinforcement of blahblahblah, etc but I got a "Best of Sparks" CD (£3.98 at Asda) from mine...

so they didn't get you that 'Dad Rocks' CD that's been advertised on the telly? that's the sort of thing we should be listening to, apparently. I got a lovely new pair of slippers and breakfast in bed. plus a special present from the wife in the evening, but i won't go into the sordid details....

i got a homemade clock (covered in football and sci-fi bits), a card with sweets inside it (already eaten) and some SadExplorerDad Reef sandals which I couldn't fit into because my feet seemed to have inexplicably engorged from 10s to 11s in the heat...

"engorged feet..." I can't figure out whether that sounds erotic or just plain vile.

A "Best of Deep Purple" CD was discussed, apparently. But my good wife noticed it contained 'remixes' and quite correctly nixed it in favour of Sparks. I'm not a Purple fan by the way. Wonder what's on the "Dad Rocks" CD...I bet fucking Weller's on there somewhere...

Hate The Jam, love the J Geils Band: "Angellllllll inna cennahfold! Angel in a cennahfold..."

me too. but i thought the lyric was 'my angel IS the centrefold'. his girlfriend posed for a porn mag and his 'blood ran cold'. poor bugger...

Shit, yeah...you're right! Damn! I never picked up on that before. No wonder the lyrics never made any sense...duh!

Ah, shame! They left off "You Ain't seen Nuthin' Yet (buh-buh-buh-baby!)..."

ahhh, one of my earliest musical memories, along with 'Popcorn' and 'Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep'.

Ha! Yeah...early synth-pop pioneers, 'natch. Wasn't Moroder was involved with "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" or did I imagine it...?

Love 'em both!

i think you're thinking of 'son of my father' by chicory tip. early moroder hit. awesome synth solo. glam electronica with a glitter-beat. lush, innit.

Ah, yaaaaaaaas...."Son of my father": bloody lovely. Reckon we should do a "Dad Synthrocks" CD with all of the above on....

Maybe "The Crunch" by The Rah Band
(basically, every song done by Goldfrapp, ever...but loads better), and maybe the Silicon Teens' version of "Judy in Disguise" or "Just Like Eddie", and maybe "Ricky's Hand" by Fad Gadget...etc, etc. I'd buy it...

i've got 'the crunch' on 7"...time for a rip methinks. actually, i've got all the tracks mentioned so far - maybe we should put this album together for d/l at Loki's. 'Chirpy..' isn't actually very synthy , but I do have a wicked instrumental moog versh by Elektrik Kokernut that might suffice? what else...? if we're including new wave it'd have to include the League's versh of 'Rock 'n' Roll/Niteclubbing'. am I getting a bit carried away here? we should at least agree to get it sorted for next year's father's day!

HL's "Rock 'n' Roll/Niteclubbing" - agreed! It's gotta be on there!

"Big City, Bright Lights" by The Missing Scientists (Daniel Miller again? With The TV Personalities, I think...???)

What about "Crazy Horses"? It's a rock-stomper and Donny does use a ribbon-controller..?

I've also got a really evil Moog LP version of "Mouldy Old Dough" which used to be the theme tune of my Pirate Radio Show years ago...Thinking about it, isn't that on the Electrik Cokernut LP? (Goes and checks record collection...) Blimey, so it is! Yeah, I've got the "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" cover too! (Gets really excited....) Bloody Hell...Moog covers of "Wig Wam Bam" and "Back Off Boogaloo" too...hurrah! That's going straight on my r-deck...

the versh of 'jeepster' is totally out of control...crank it up, baby!

At 10:17 pm, Blogger GTTRBRKZ said...

ps. two other cool Brit-moog albums are 'the many moogs of Killer Watts' and 'Moog at the Movies' by Synthesonic Sounds (aka Mike Batt) featuring killa versh of 'Live & Let Die' and 'Superfly'.

pps. are we going for a record for the most comments from a really short post?!

Yeah, "Jeepster" is a real stomper!! Fat Moog bassline, handclaps, serious conga action, and the guitarist really loses it in the background!

...someone should go "And I'm gonna suuuuuuck yah!" thru a vocoder!

"Sea-side Shuffle" is the Captain Pugwash theme on a modular trip (dig the white-noise waves...)
